Yesterday, BMW issued a press release announcing that the company has joined President Obama's American Business Act on Climate Pledge initiative, and become one of 154 companies who have committed to ongoing action on climate change. This pledge adds substantial business support to the 2015 UN Climate Change Conference, currently taking place in Paris.
“The American Business Act on Climate Pledge demonstrates our company’s public commitment to fight climate change by taking action,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “With this commitment, the BMW Group further shows its intent to continue being a leader in sustainability across the entire value chain: from R&D to manufacturing to operations.”
As part of the pledge, the company aims to become the leading automaker, when it comes to the use of renewable energy, by the year 2020. BMW Group's commitment to climate action is well documented. It is one of the most sustainable automotive companies in the world, and it is the only automotive company to be listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), every year since 1999.
