BMW X Lineup on sandy road

What is BMW xDrive?

We know Tennessee BMW fans deserve complete peace of mind and reliable performance on their daily drives and weekend road trips. That’s why we offer many models equipped with BMW xDrive, the proprietary BMW all-wheel drive system. Is BMW xDrive 4 wheel drive? There are small differences between AWD and 4WD, and xDrive is defined as an all-wheel drive system. The team at our BMW dealer bear Morristown, TN, can explain how to use BMW xDrive and get the most out of your vehicle’s performance day after day.

How BMW xDrive Works

Like with other all-wheel drive systems, BMW xDrive can send torque to all four wheels, allowing for flawless traction and handling. With normal road and weather conditions, xDrive maintains a 40:60 power ratio between the front and rear axles for balanced performance. But when your BMW xDrive28i or xDrive30i is faced with less secure roads, the xDrive all-wheel drive system will alter the distribution to enhance traction. If the driver begins oversteering, power is sent to the front axle. Conversely, xDrive will send a percentage of power back to the rear axle to establish complete stability if it detects understeering. Plus, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) is there to monitor road conditions with sensors to provide brake force when it detects waning traction.

Where to Buy a BMW with xDrive

When you compare BMW xDrive vs. sDrive models, you’ll notice that many of the vehicles on our lot are offered in both drivetrains.
