Here at Rick Hill BMW, we're committed to keeping you safe and informed. That's why we're sharing these tips for how to avoid hydroplaning. Having a basic understanding of this phenomenon and how to handle it can help you stay calm if it happens to you.

You can avoid your risk of sliding on wet roads if you make sure to replace your tires regularly and have them rotated and balanced as recommended. Slowing down in rainy weather and trying to avoid puddles or standing water are also good preventative measures.

If you find yourself hydroplaning, try to remain calm. Just remove your foot from the gas. Do not press on the brake. Next, turn the steering wheel slightly in the direction that you're sliding until you feel yourself regaining traction and control. If you're feeling on edge or anxious, it can be a wise idea to pull over to the side of the road to calm down.
