How is synthetic oil made?

The myth of synthetic oil is that it is entirely devoid of any crude oil components. The base of synthetic oil comes from fossil fuels. In one case, that fossil fuel is natural gas. In other cases, the fossil fuel base comes from crude oil.

Synthetic oil begins as a refined oil from some sort of fossil fuel. Further steps are taken in a laboratory to distill the base oil and purify it to its basic molecular structure. The process of purification removes the impurities that remain in conventional oils. The base molecules are sent through a chemical process to regulate the molecular size, thus creating an oil that is uniform at its base level. High-performance additives are included in the formula to help maintain molecular conformity.
